TextFairfax County 9-1-1 Opportunities to Advance Your Career
Fairfax County 9-1-1 offers chances for professional growth and career advancement. All Public Safety Communicators enter as a PSC I and must demonstrate proficiency as a call taker and begin actively training as a police or fire-rescue dispatcher within 12 months of his/her hire date.
DPSC promotes from within. A call taker becomes eligible for higher positions based on performance and qualification criteria as well as the completion of training in three skill areas: fire and rescue dispatcher, police dispatcher and teletype operator. In addition, qualified PSC III candidates have the opportunity to apply for Assistant or Lead Squad Supervisor positions that become available due to retirements or promotions.
