Fairfax County 9-1-1 Employee Certifications
Fairfax County 9-1-1 call takers and dispatchers must obtain several basic call taking and emergency medical service certifications. Additionally, they have the opportunity to obtain emergency training services and earn professional certifications that are specific to 9-1-1 emergency procedures and/or public safety. While basic call taking certifications are required to be a 9-1-1 call taker, higher-level certifications are optional and may be obtained as part of career development.

- American Heart Association Heart Saver CPR and AED
- Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD)
- National Incident Management System (NIMS)
- Virginia State Basic Communications School
- Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) Level C
Higher-Level Certifications
- Certified Training Officer (CTO)
- CPR Instructor
- Department of Criminal Justice Services Instructor
- Emergency Medical Dispatch Instructor
- Hostage Negotiator
- Virginia Criminal Information Network Instructor
