The Fairfax County Department of Public Safety Communications (9-1-1 Center) Recognizes Employees at its Third Annual Fall First of the First Responders Awards Ceremony

On Thursday, Nov. 18, at 6 p.m., the Fairfax County Department of Public Safety Communications (DPSC) recognized its employees for their exceptional performance, professionalism and commitment to the residents of Fairfax County and the Police and Fire and Rescue Departments. In addition, employees were recognized for achieving a years of service milestone as well as promotions that occurred since April of this year. The ceremony was held at the McConnell Public Safety and Transportation Operations Center (MPSTOC).

The event was hosted by the DPSC Awards Committee with a special homemade dinner prior to the announcing of the awards. The dinner was prepared by DPSC’s own Public Safety Communicator (PSC) III Debbie Reubens and PSC II Linda Quesenberry. PSC III Dylan Harris was the Master of Ceremony and the event began with the DPSC Honor Guard’s presentation of the colors and Assistant Supervisor Sherrie White singing the National Anthem. Director Steve Souder, Assistant Director of 9-1-1/Dispatch Operations Bureau Cynthia Bird-Shrout and Assistant Director of Support Services Bureau Roy Oliver presented the awards to each employee.

Notable award winners included

  • PSC III Carolyn Kellam taking home the Most Valuable Person (MVP) and Meritorious Service Awards.
  • PSC I Kaitlyn Knoll receiving the Outstanding Emergency Medical Dispatch Provider and Meritorious Act Award.
  • PSC III Liza Nicholas, PSC II Kim Austin, PSC I Jaime Keith and PSC I Matthew Rendulic receiving the Outstanding EMD Provider Award for their respective squads.
  • PSC III Scott Pierpoint as the Outstanding EMD Instructor.
  • Telephony Systems Manager Brenda Edmundson and PSC III Gary Branton (retired) received the Director’s Award.
  • PSC II Erikk Daniel as the second recipient of the Johnny Embrey Police Dispatch Award.
  • PSC III Robin Pierpoint as the second recipient of the Wesley Gerald Fire Dispatch Award.

DPSC receives over 1 million calls for service each year and dispatches approximately 1 million police, fireand rescue and sheriff events annually. DPSC is the largest public safety answering point (PSAP) in the Commonwealth of Virginia and one of the ten largest in the nation.
