The grave of WILLIAM C. PRESTON (1853-1862), a Confederate soldier, lies within an iron fence next to the 18th green on the Ridgeview Country Club golf course. Preston, the nephew of Gen. Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson, was killed during the 2nd Battle of Manassas and brought to the field hospital at "Sudley". The mansion stood @100 yards due north of the grave. Inscription: "William C. Preston/son of/L. T. L. & S. L. Preston/Lexington, Virginia/He was a private in the/College Company/of the 4th Virginia Reg't/Stonewall Brigade/and fell at Manassas/Aug. 28th 1862/in the 19th year of his age./The Young Patriot lost his mortal/life in defending his native state,/The young christian found his/nobler life in Christ who died for/him."
