Confederate Cemetery

Union Mills Rd.
Clifton, Va.

FX328

This cemetery is reported to be located on the north side of the Southern Railway tracks on land now owned by the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority. During the winter of 1861/1862 large numbers of Confederate troops were stationed in and around the Centreville area. Many deaths were caused by both military action and disease, particularly measles. Documentary sources indicate that there may be several hundred casualties buried here and that many graves were marked by native soapstone markers as late as 1898. The exact location is still unknown.
