What is an eBook?
eBooks are books that you download from the Internet and read on your computer.

What do I need to access eBooks?
Your Fairfax County Public Library card. For netLibrary, you also need to establish a free account with that company which can be done via our Web site. You need Adobe Digital Editions software which is available for free, if you want to read a PDF-formatted eBook. For OverDrive eBooks, you may also need to install the Mobipocket Reader.

Log on
Gale Virtual Reference Library is a collection of eBook encyclopedias and almanacs.

LearningExpress Library.

Log on
LearningExpress Library provides interactive online practice tests, eBooks, and tutorial courses series designed to prepare people to succeed on academic or licensing tests. Immediate scoring, complete answer explanations, and an individualized analysis of test results are given. Coverage spans elementary school skills through adult job skills and citizenship test preparation.

NetLibrary.

Log on
NetLibrary makes available access to thousands of eBooks on a wide variety of subjects. After you log on you will need to create an account with NetLibrary. Titles are listed in the NetLibrary online catalog.

eBooks may be read on your PC or laptop using your Web browser. They may not be downloaded or copied to a CD.

NetLibrary offers an online introduction which will help you get started.

Overdrive eBooks.

Log on
OverDrive provides access to hundreds of eAudiobooks, eBooks and eVideo titles. Titles are listed in OverDrive's online catalog. eAudiobooks and eVideo titles may be enjoyed on your Windows computer and may be downloaded to selected Windows-compatible portable devices. Some titles (MP3 format only) can also be downloaded to Mac computers and MP3 players including iPods. If you see icon of CD burning. you may copy the eAudiobook to CD. eVideos cannot be copied to CD. You will need to download a copy of the OverDrive Media Console to use this service. You must also have a Fairfax County Public Library card. For information regarding permitted uses of downloaded eAudiobooks and eVideo titles please see the copyright notice. To download eBook titles you must have Adobe Digital Editions installed on your computer.

eAudiobooks and eBooks can be checked out for 7, 14, or 21 days (default). eVideos can be checked out for 3, 5 or 7 days (default). Check out periods can be modified on a title-by-title basis at check out. You can rate titles on the basis of one to five stars.
