    • FactCheck.org
      The Annenberg Political Fact Check is a nonpartisan, nonprofit advocate for voters. It monitors the accuracy of what is said by politicians in their TV ads, debates, speeches, interviews and news releases.

      A comprehensive Web site providing feature summaries of political news, commentary and international, domestic and economic affairs. Links to related stories appearing on leading online news channels are provided.

    • Politics1
      Links to presidential, gubernatorial, U.S. Senate and congressional candidates and political parties. Special features include links to third-party Web sites and to special-interest organizations representing contrasting positions on issues such as taxes, guns, abortion, gay rights, affirmative action, environment, free speech and immigration. The site includes a section devoted to Virginia politics.

    • PolitiFact
      Researchers, writers and editors from Congressional Quarterly and the St. Petersburg Times (Florida) offer a nonpartisan way to help voters sort fact from fiction. They analyze the candidates' speeches, TV ads and interviews to determine whether their claims are accurate. The Web site is searchable by candidate, sponsor or issue, and features "truth-o-meter" ratings.

      Geared to appeal to young voters, this site emphasizes the democratic process. Overall message encourages political activism (in whatever form) via increased knowledge of political issues and freedom of expression.

      Coverage of the current election season, and a link to a database of every vote in the U.S. Congress since 1991.

    An independent source of campaign finance information.

  • Fairfax County Electoral Board — Candidate Financial Reports
    View candidate campaign contributions and expenditures reports for candidates running for local Fairfax County offices. For reports for candidates for statewide offices, follow their links to the Virginia State Board of Elections, or use the link (below) to "Virginia State Board of Elections — Campaign Finance in Virginia".

  • Federal Election Commission — Campaign Finance Reports and Data
    View federal election financial disclosure reports that have been filed by House, Senate and presidential campaigns, as well as political parties and political action committees (PACs) from 1993 to the present.

  • Follow the Money
    A searchable database from the Institute on Money in State Politics, a national nonpartisan, nonprofit organization studying campaign finance at the state level. Includes data on state-level candidates, judicial elections, ballot measures, party committees and contributors.

  • Opensecrets.org
    Find information on campaign contributions from the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization.

  • Virginia Public Access Project
    This comprehensive, nonpartisan resource about money in Virginia state and local politics uses data from the Virginia State Board of Elections. It includes candidate profiles and information on lobbyists.

  • Virginia State Board of Elections — Campaign Finance in Virginia
    View campaign contribution and expenditure reports for state-wide elections from 1999 to the present. Site includes detailed information on Virginia's laws on campaign finance and advertising.

  • Atlas of U.S. Presidential Elections
    Information about the 2008 election, and detailed statistics and maps on the 2004 presidential and 2006 senatorial and gubernatorial elections. Data comes from many primary sources. There is also an electoral college calculator, and historical data for presidential elections from 1789 to the present and for senatorial and gubernatorial elections from 1990 to the present. Note: Maps and graphs use red for Democrats and blue for Republicans, contrary to popular usage.

  • Election Calendar
    The calendar of federal, state and local elections, as well as an election schedule by office. Provided by the Fairfax County Electoral Board.
