What is an Ombudsman?


Ombudsman is a Swedish term for a person who acts as an impartial third party in resolving problems. Ombudsmen:

  • Advocate for improving the quality of life for persons receiving long-term care services.

  • Resolve complaints against long-term care providers through counseling, negotiation and investigation.

  • Provide information about long-term care providers to help make an informed decision.

  • Educate the community about long-term care issues.

  • Visit residents of long-term care facilities weekly through our volunteer program.

  • Train long-term care staff.

  • Consult with providers.
