Volunteers are matched with adults, 60 and older,
who need assistance in maintaining their independence. All volunteers are
interviewed and character references are checked.
Volunteers assist with a variety of services to enable clients to maintain their independence while living in their own homes. Grocery shopping, light housekeeping, minor home maintenance, transportation (to medical appointments and for errands), and yard work are some of the areas in which a volunteer can help. A home visit is required with all potential clients before a volunteer is referred.
If you have further questions, please call the Fairfax Area Agency on Aging at 703-324-7948, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and ask for an Aging Information Specialist.
If you are interested in volunteering for this program and have a few hours each month to give to the elders in your community, please call the Volunteer Intake Person at the Fairfax Area Agency on Aging at 703-324-5406. You will need to provide your own transportation. Many of the services requested by our clients can be done at your convenience. There are no specific skill requirements, but we gladly welcome volunteers who want to share special skills.
