Honoring the Lake Braddock Secondary School Band and Band Director, Roy Holder
Madame Chairman:
It fills me with pride to be able to inform my colleagues of the tremendous honor earned by the Lake Braddock Secondary School Band. Being a high school band invited to perform in another country is itself a remarkable feat, but it is even more incredible when you consider this is only the second such invitation offered by China.
Pulled together from members of the Symphonic Band, Concert Band I and Concert Band II, these young musicians will be overseas today through April 1st and give 5 performances. I had the great privilege of attending a rehearsal on Thursday and was supremely impressed. However, that’s come to be expected from a group that has been named a Virginia Honor Band for 29 consecutive years.
I know these young men and women will comport themselves well as representatives of both their school and Fairfax County and we will be better thought of because of their efforts.
The man leading the program deserves some recognition as well. Roy Holder has been an integral part in the band’s successes during his 22 years as Band Director and has recently been elected to the prestigious American Bandmaster’s Association, one of only a handful of High School Band Directors to achieve this honor.
Madame Chairman, I would ask, without objection, that the Office of Public Affairs publicize these achievements and that we invite Roy Holder to come before the Board of Supervisors on May 11th.
