Celebrating Laurel Ridge Elementary School’s 40 years in the Community

Madame Chairman:

It brings me great pleasure to recognize one of the Braddock District’s great treasures, Laurel Ridge Elementary School. For 40 years now, Laurel Ridge has been serving the Kings Park West community, preparing youth for future success in life and acting as a model for excellence in the Fairfax County Public School system.

Newly renovated in 2005, the school offers a great variety of learning spaces and opportunities for children which include advanced technology resources, open pod learning spaces, a gymnasium equipped with a climbing wall and a library media center. Highlighting its commitment to students, as of 2008, Laurel Ridge outfitted each classroom with a digital data projector and an interactive white board, allowing teachers to seamlessly integrate technology into lessons on a daily basis. Additionally, the Comprehensive Emotional Disabilities Support Services (CEDSS) program is an integral part of the school and a partial-immersion program exists, enabling identified students in grades one through six to think, speak, read and write in Spanish as they learn mathematics, science and health.

Due to both a highly qualified staff of educators and a dedicated parent community, Laurel Ridge has long been a school where children are given only the best educational opportunities. On Friday, June 4th the greater Laurel Ridge community will gather for a 40th Anniversary Celebration to reflect on past successes and step forward toward another 40 years of greatness.

Madame Chairman, without objection I ask that the Office of Public Affairs publicize this event and I ask further that the Board of Supervisors invite representatives from Laurel Ridge Elementary School to come before the Board at its June 22nd meeting to be recognized for their ceaseless dedication to our children.
