Braddock District Sponsors Packing Day to Support Deployed Troops
Working with VolunteerFest® and America’s Adopt A Soldier, Supervisor
Cook will be sponsoring a Packing Day on October 23 at Lake Braddock
Secondary School. This event is part of a larger campaign, Challenge
America 2010, which has a goal of sending a care package to every
deployed service man and woman by the end of November.
America’s Adopt A Soldier was created in 2009 by retired Army Officer, Mary Keeser. In addition to holding regular packing days, her organization also sponsors a program that supplies computers and training to service members injured in the line of duty.
Our Packing Day will bring together members of the Braddock community in order to improve the lives of our military members. Collection boxes will be placed throughout the Braddock District where you can drop off items to be packed. In the meantime, you can always drop off donations at the Braddock District Office.
A few suggestions are; baby wipes, socks DVDs , CDs/CD players, liquid body wash soap, toiletries (tooth brushes, toothpaste), snacks (Hard candy, crackers), gift cards, water bottles, handheld games, coffee, Gatorade, sun block, paper, pens, pencils, envelopes, batteries, foot powder, books, magazines, crossword puzzles and board games. A complete list of items can be obtained by calling the office at 703-425-9300, or by visiting www.americasadoptasoldier.com.
For those of you looking to volunteer during the actual packing day, contact Lindsey Smith in the Braddock District Office, or sign up on the Volunteer Fairfax website http://volunteerfairfax.civicore.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=VolunteerFest.Opportunities&Area=VolunteerFest.
