Winter in Virginia is unpredictable.  Heavy snow, extreme cold, ice and wind during a winter storm pose dangers to life and property. Preparing for cold weather conditions and responding to them effectively reduces the hazards associated with winter storms. The Fairfax County Office of Emergency Management has good advice on emergency planning during the winter months.
