TextRecycling Older Televisions
For disposal of older televisions, there are options – depending on whether the TV is working and can be donated, or if the TV is going to be recycled or simply discarded. Recycling is preferable because televisions contain lead, chemicals, and other hazardous waste.
Working Televisions: Working televisions can be donated to charities or directly to people in need of televisions, such as those in nursing homes. Places of worship, service clubs, or scout troops may also accept televisions for community yard sales.
Fairfax County Solid Waste Management Program: The County sponsors several community recycling events for electronics each year for residents; no fee is involved. Visit Recycling electronics or call 703-324-5230 for information.
ServiceSource: ServiceSource holds regularly-scheduled recycling events in conjunction with Fairfax County (see the above). Call 703-461-6000 for information.
Best Buy: Take 32” and smaller TVs to the Customer Service Desk at any Best Buy store. Call 703-631-3332 for information.
E-Tech Recycling, Inc.: Drop off TVs at 4116-G Walney Road in Chantilly, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fee is $1 per inch, screen size measured diagonally. Call 703-378-5500 for information.
Goodwill Industries: Donate working TVs at any of three “donation centers.” In Arlington at 10 South Glebe Road; call 703-769-3711 for hours. In Sterling at the Sterling Plaza II Shopping Center – 22405 Enterprise Street; call 703-444-5186 for hours. In Manassas at 8014 Sudley Road; call 703-551-3200 for hours. For a TV to be accepted by Goodwill, it must have an RF coaxial connector port on the back.
PC Recycler, Inc.: Drop off TVs on the second Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Chantilly at 4005 Westfax Drive; a $10 fee is involved. Call 703-436-1967 or visit pcrecycler.net for information.
Salvation Army: Donate working TVs at 6528 Little River Turnpike, Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Console televisions and those with “wood grain” plastic cases are not accepted. A “pick-up” at a residence can also be arranged if other large household items are being donated. Call 703-642-9276 for information.
Trash Collection Services at Curbside: Contact the private trash collection company for information regarding disposal of a television. If Fairfax County provides your trash collection service, call 703-324-5230.
