The BZA holds public hearings on variance and special permit applications and appeals as defined by the Zoning Ordinance.  The BZA is a seven-member board made up of Fairfax County citizens appointed by the Circuit Court.  The agenda for the meeting can be found at the Web address provided below under Related Information.  The meeting is open to the public and is also broadcast live on Fairfax County Government’s Television Cable Channel 16.  As a courtesy and to ensure the accuracy of the record, if you wish to speak on a particular case during the public hearing, please sign up on the speaker’s list prior to the day of the meeting by contacting the Clerk to the Board of Zoning Appeals at the telephone number listed below or via e-mail by sending the date of the meeting at which you wish to speak, the application number, your name, address, and telephone number to ClerktoBZA@fairfaxcounty.gov.  The hearings are open to all citizens who wish to speak.  Sign-up on the speaker’s list is not mandatory.  Speakers will not be called upon by name.  During the hearing when the Chairman asks for speakers in support of or in opposition to the application, please indicate your presence and desire to be heard.

PLEASE NOTE:  Board of Zoning Appeals Inclement Weather Policy -- In the event of inclement weather, the County Executive may close all county offices or may grant unscheduled leave to county employees.  In both cases, all Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) public hearings scheduled for that day shall be cancelled and the applications rescheduled for the next available meeting date which can accommodate the hearings and allows sufficient time for re-advertising.
