Fairfax Board of Supervisors Approves Hiring of New County Executive
April 10, 2012 – Today, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved the hiring of former Deputy County Executive, Ed Long, to succeed Fairfax County Executive Anthony Griffin. Our Board’s vote was unanimous, a clear demonstration of our strong support and faith in Ed.
Ed Long has worked for the County for 34 years, beginning with his years as a Budget Analyst in August of 1977. His knowledge of Fairfax County, our employees, and our budget process will be invaluable as he fills this new role. Ed brings to the table the institutional knowledge and extensive experience that will help make the transition to a new County Executive seamless.
Those who know Ed personally know him as a steady, trustworthy leader. I believe that his skills and management style will continue to foster the culture of excellence for which Fairfax County Government is so well known.
The decision to choose the next County Executive was a significant one
and I want to thank all Fairfax County employees and residents for their
thoughtful feedback throughout the process.
