“Transportation is an economic issue. The transportation decisions we make today can pay off enormously in the long run, increasing productivity and economic growth in the region as well as adding to the quality of people's lives." –Sharon Bulova
Chairman Bulova has spent decades dealing with Transportation issues in Fairfax County. She has been a past Chair of the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission (NVTC) and is a founder of the VRE commuter rail system.
Each year, Virginia loses an estimated $3.7 million each year from congestion. Northern Virginia residents can expect to be delayed over 70 hours per year, and the annual cost per commuter is nearly $1,500 per year. Business and growth are so intertwined with transportation that Northern Virginia cannot expect to remain economically competitive without first creating an effective transportation network. Chairman Bulova believes in the importance of investing in multi-modal transportation infrastructure, which gives people options and makes it easier for people to travel between high-density areas and elsewhere.
