Fairfax Connector Still Operating Limited Service Sep. 18
September 17, 2008
Fairfax Connector bus service in south Fairfax County will continue to operate a Limited Sunday schedule on Wednesday, Sep.18. The contract between the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 3001 (formerly Local 3398), the union representing employees, and Veolia Transportation Inc., the contracted bus operator, expired at midnight Sep.14 without being renewed or extended. Fairfax County owns the Fairfax Connector bus system but is not involved in these labor negotiations, which are between the contractor and the Union.
Veolia does not expect all employees to report for work Wednesday morning, so bus service will be operated by a limited number of personnel. Limited Sunday service, which operates on an hourly schedule, is believed to be the maximum level of reliable bus service that can be provided under the circumstances. Additional buses will be deployed as more drivers become available, but in the meantime, passengers may experience crowding on some routes.
Sunday bus service will be operated on the following south county bus routes on Wednesday: 101, 151, 152, 171, 310, 321, 322 and 401.
Bus service will not operate on the following south county bus routes: 109, 161, 162, 231, 232, 301, 303, 304, 305, 306, 307, 331, 332, 380 and VRE EZ-Bus North and South.
