Fairfax County absorbed the Metrobus 2W, 12 and 20 series lines into the Fairfax Connector bus system on June 29, 2009. This was to give the county greater flexibility in determining the levels and types of bus service it can provide to county residents, and allow for future expansion of service more quickly and at a lower cost than if provided by WMATA.
