Fairfax Connector Implements Fare Increases Effective June 25

Earlier today, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved Fairfax Connector fare increases effective Sunday, June 25, 2017. Fares will increase in conjunction with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA).

Base Fare Changes

  • Regular base fare will increase from $1.75 to $2.00, if paying by SmarTrip® card or cash.
  • Senior and disabled base fare will increase from $0.85 cents to $1.00, if paying by SmarTrip® card or cash.

Express Fare Changes

  • Fare for routes 393, 394 and 395 will increase from $4.00 to $4.25, if paying by SmarTrip® card or cash.
  • Senior and disabled fare for routes 393, 394 and 395 will increase from $2.00 to $2.10, if paying by SmarTrip® card or cash.
  • Senior and disabled fare for route 599 will increase from $0.85 to $3.75, if paying by SmarTrip® card or cash. This brings the fare to 50 percent of the route’s base fare and is consistent with Fairfax Connector fare policy.

Transfer Fare Changes

Bus-to-Bus Transfers

  • Regular Routes

o   Transfer fare, if paying cash, will increase from $1.75 to $2.00.

  • Express Routes

o   Transfer fare for routes 393, 394 and 395, if paying cash, will increase from $4.00 to $4.25.

Metrorail-to-Bus Transfers

  • Regular Routes

o   Transfer fare will increase from $1.25 to $1.50, if paying by SmarTrip® card and from $1.75 to $2.00, if paying cash.

o   The senior and disabled transfer fare will increase from $0.35 to $0.50, if paying by SmarTrip® card and to $1.00, if paying cash.

  • Express and Other Routes

o   Regular transfer fare for routes 393, 394 and 395 will increase from $3.50 to $3.75, if paying by SmarTrip® card and from $4.00 to $4.25, if paying cash. The senior and disabled transfer fare will increase from $1.50 to $1.60, if paying by SmarTrip® card and to $2.10, if paying cash.

o   Senior and disabled transfer fare for Route 599 will increase from $0.85 to $3.75, if paying by SmarTrip® or cash.

Travel Cheaper and Easier with SmarTrip®

Purchasing a SmarTrip® card will minimize the impact of the fare increase. A SmarTrip® card provides for up to two hours of free bus-to-bus transfers, and $0.50 discounts for bus-to-rail transfers. SmarTrip® cards can be purchased at Connector Stores, Metrorail Stations, and most CVS and Giant Food locations.
