West Ox Bus Operations Center Project

Background

Fairfax County is constructing a new bus operations facility known as the West Ox Bus Operations Center. This facility is located in Western Fairfax County near the intersection of West Ox Road and Route 29. The site consists of three major buildings:

  1. Administrative/Operations Building consisting of 14,929 GSF
    4950 Alliance Drive
  2. Maintenance Building consisting of 43,266 GSF
    4960 Alliance Drive
  3. Service Building (Fuel and Wash) consisting of 26,476 GSF
    4950 Alliance Drive

The total for Phase 1 of the project is 84,671GSF

The project is a joint use facility shared with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) Metrobus operation and the Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) FAIRFAX CONNECTOR bus contract service provider.

The facility is initially being designed (Phase 1) for a fleet of 175 buses of which 100 are allocated to Metrobus and 75 are allocated to the FAIRFAX CONNECTOR. The capacity of the facility can increase to 300 buses in a second phase for which funding has been identified, but not yet allocated. The process to consider expanding the facility's bus storage and/or parking capacity to 300 buses is in the formative stages and will be somewhat dependent on the recommendations of the Transit Development Plan to be completed in late calendar year 2009 and its adoption by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.

Phase 1 of this project is scheduled for completion in Fall 2008. Please visit this link to view pictures of the West Ox Project from ground breaking to present.
