Complaints
The Consumer Affairs Branch assists consumers through advice inquiries, mediation, and arbitration.
File a Complaint
If you have a consumer complaint, you can file a complaint on-line, download a complaint form (19 KB .pdf
file), or contact the
Consumer Affairs Branch at 703-222-8435, TTY 711 to have a complaint form
sent to you.
If you have consumer questions or concerns, contact Consumer Affairs at 703-222-8435 Monday - Friday between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM. An investigator will be able to assist you.
When you file a consumer complaint, an investigator will be assigned to your case. The investigator mediates the complaint with the business to negotiate a resolution that is satisfactory to both parties. If a consumer law has been broken, the Consumer Affairs Branch works with the business to come into compliance with the law.
If mediation is not successful, a voluntary but legally-binding arbitration process is available as a last resort before proceeding to court actions. The investigator assigned to mediate your complaint will advise you if arbitration is an option.
Laws
The laws that protect consumers are
Virginia Consumer Protection Act and Chapter 10 of the
The Fairfax County Code.
