Complaint Mediation
When you file a consumer complaint, an investigator will be assigned to your case. Through mediation, the investigator works with the consumer and business to help them reach a resolution that is satisfactory to both. If there is a violation of the Virginia Consumer Protection Act, the Consumer Affairs Branch works with the business to come into compliance with the law.
Arbitration Process
If mediation is not successful, a voluntary but legally binding arbitration process is available as a last resort before proceeding to court actions. The investigator assigned to mediate your complaint will advise you if arbitration is an option.Laws
The laws that protect consumers are the Virginia Consumer Protection Act and Chapter 10 of the Fairfax County Code.
