Pretrial Services

Pretrial Services is responsible for providing critical records and assessment information to police and magistrates shortly after an individual’s arrest.  The unit provides bond recommendations to the judiciary for advisement hearings with possible pretrial supervision offered through the Supervised Release Program.

Services Include:

  • Risk Assessments using the Virginia Pretrial Risk Assessment Instrument (VPRAI) of jailed defendants prior to an advisement hearing.
  • Interviews, criminal history checks and background investigations of jailed defendants prior to an advisement hearing.
  • Recommendations to the court regarding a defendant's release to personal recognizance, secure bond and/or to the Supervised Release Program.
