Civil Fees & Credit Card Information
FILING FEE:
Due at the time of filing. Payable to Fairfax General District Court.
$41 - if amount of suit exceeds $200 or if suit is for possession of
property only
$36 - if amount of suit is $200 or less
SHERIFF'S SERVICE FEE:
Due at the time of filing if service requested through a Virginia Sheriff. Payable to Fairfax General District Court.
$12 - per person to be served
EXCEPTIONS:
Garnishments and Interrogatories require a Sheriff's Service fee of $24 per person to be served.
Writ of Possession in Unlawful Detainer is $25 for the first defendant and $12 for each additional defendant.
Attachment before Judgment, Detinue Seizure, Levy, Distress Warrant, and Writ of Possession in Detinue require a $25 per action fee only (no per person fee).
STATUTORY AGENT SERVICE FEES:
Submitted to the court at filing but a separate check is required for
these fees.
DMV - $28 per party to be served. Payable to DMV.
Secretary of the Commonwealth - $28 per party to be served.
Payable to the Secretary of the Commonwealth.
State Corporation Commission - $30 per party to be served.
Payable to SCC. Note: $12 Sheriff's Service Fee per person also
required
METHOD OF PAYMENT:
Payment of Filing and Sheriff's Service Fees may be by cash, check,
money order, or the following credit cards: Visa, Master Card, Discover,
and American Express.
In-person
- at the Civil/Small Claims Counter in the Fairfax Judicial Center, Room 288

8am-4pm, Monday-Friday.
By mail
- If paying by check, the Filing Fee and Sheriff's Service Fee may be submitted on one check payable to Fairfax General District Court.
