Description:
Work schedule includes weekend, shift and
holiday work. Provides in-depth counseling to detainees on
such diverse topics as substance abuse, crisis intervention,
mental health and conflict resolution. Conducts group and
individual sessions with detainees to help ease their adjustment
anxieties. Supervises detainees during unit activities, health,
recreation and in the school program. Performs security checks,
wake-up and bedtime procedures, showering and hygiene functions,
and unit housekeeping. Writes behavioral observations and
disciplinary reports. Orients detainees to the program. Ability
to respond physically to acting out youth.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school, preferably
supplemented by graduation from college with major course
work in psychology, social work, sociology or a related field,
plus four years of experience working with and counseling
adolescents.
Preferred Qualifications:
4 year degree; Prior Residential experience
Note: Appointees to this position will
be required to satisfactorily complete a criminal background
check.

Substitute Relief Counselor
Juvenile Detention Center,
Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court
Part-Time
$18.05/hr. (Grade S14)
Description:
Cares for and supervises residents. Responsible
for program implementation and behavioral management of residents
on an as needed basis. Day ( 7 a.m. - 3 p.m.), evening (3 -
11 p.m.), overnight (11 p.m. - 7 a.m.) weekend and holiday hours
will be required. Availability is critical.
Minimum Qualifications:
Third year college students majoring in courses
in the behavioral sciences. One year work experience with children
or adolescent groups may be substituted for one year of academic
credit towards a Bachelor's degree; or, completion of a two-year
certificate or Associate's degree in behavioral sciences and
two years of full-time work experience with adolescent / delinquent
youth.
Special Requirements:
Physical examination and criminal record checks required.
