The Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic
Relations District Court has jurisdiction over juvenile matters,
offenses committed by adults against juveniles (youth under
the age of 18), and family matters, except divorce, in Fairfax
County, the City of Fairfax, and the towns of Herndon, Vienna
and Clifton.
The Court has specific subject matter
jurisdiction over the following types of cases:
- Delinquency - Criminal complaints filed against a juvenile
17 and under.
- Status Offenders - Status offenses are acts prohibited by
law which would not be a crime if committed by an adult, such
as tobacco possession or curfew violations.
- Child in Need of Services (CHINServ) - Child whose behavior,
conduct or condition presents or results in a serious threat
to the well-being and physical safety of the child.
- Child in Need of Supervision (CHINSup) - Child who is habitually
truant without justification or who is a habitual runaway.
- Intrafamily Offenses
- Traffic Infractions and Driver's Licenses for juveniles.
- Abuse and Neglect
- Entrustment Agreements
- Termination of Parental Rights and Reversal of Termination
- Mental Commitments and Retardation Certification
- Consent to Medical or Surgical Treatment and other activities
which may require parental consent when the child is separated
from his / her parents
- Emancipation
- Family or Household Member Abuse Protective Orders
- Desertion and Nonsupport
- Child Custody, Visitation and Support and Spousal Support
- Petitions for Obtaining Service/Parentage Petitions (Paternity
Establishment Petitions)
- Adult Offenses Against a Child
