Mental Illness Awareness Week Conference Scheduled for September 25
Conference Theme: “Moving Toward Recovery”
The Tenth Annual Mental Illness Awareness Week Conference will be held Friday, September 25, 2009, at the Marriott Hotel Fairfax at Fair Oaks, Fairfax, Va., from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The conference theme is, “Moving Toward Recovery.”
A morning panel discussion will explore employment and its role in recovery from mental illness.
The luncheon will feature keynote speaker Mary Blake, Program Manager of the Center for Mental Health Services’ National Center for Trauma-Informed Care. Mary has spoken extensively on methods for enhancing corporate communications, mental health recovery, issues related to capacity and identity for persons who are psychiatrically-diagnosed, and stigma related to mental illness.
The luncheon will also include awards presentations, including the Mental Health Community Contributor Award and the Ed and Vivian Brazill Leadership & Advocacy Award.
The cost of the conference and luncheon is $35 and consumer scholarships are available.
