Butterfly Days at Springfield Mall Promote Awareness
for Foster Children in Fairfax County

For Immediate Release - July 6, 2004

Come participate in Butterfly Days, a new community awareness project to educate Fairfax County residents about the hundreds of children in Fairfax County's foster care program. School-aged children around the county are hand decorating butterflies to represent the 477 children in foster care in the county. The butterflies are then hung on trees placed throughout the county to raise awareness about these children and to encourage more people to consider joining the remarkable group of citizens who serve as foster parents in our community.

"Foster parents give these children an opportunity to develop into happy, healthy, beautiful individuals," says Carolyn Fowler, Program Manager, Fairfax County Foster Care and Adoption.

The community is invited to help create more butterflies at Springfield Mall on Saturdays, July 17th, 24th, and 31st, from 10am-7pm. Art supplies will be provided. Visit the butterfly trees and learn more about the county's foster care program from Fairfax County staff on those days.
