For Immediate Release:
The Freddie Mac Foundation recently awarded a grant of $100,000 to Fairfax County’s Office for Children in support of Fairfax Futures: The Fund for Early Learning & School Readiness, a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing public awareness and raising funds to support improved quality early learning experiences for young children in Fairfax County.
The grant will help support various 2005 activities, including a symposium that will bring together members of the public school and child care communities to explore what young children need to know to enter school ready to learn.
The Foundation’s donation also includes a challenge grant that will match contributions, dollar for dollar up to $10,000, to encourage broad business support for awards to those who work with and care for young children and successfully complete specialized training.
"We are grateful for the Freddie Mac Foundation's leadership and investment in the children of Fairfax County," said Gerald Connolly, chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. This latest grant continues Freddie Mac's support of quality early learning; in 2004, the Foundation contributed $60,000 to help launch Fairfax Futures.
“Contributions like these demonstrate what can be accomplished when public, private and philanthropic sectors work in partnership to improve the educational opportunities and the economic future for everyone in Fairfax County,” said Todd Rowley, senior vice president, Wachovia Bank, and Chair of Fairfax Futures..
Fairfax Futures was launched in June 2004 and is building on the earlier efforts of the County’s Office for Children to strengthen the knowledge, skills and abilities of those who work with and care for young children in Fairfax County.
The Freddie Mac Foundation is dedicated to opening the doors to hope and opportunity for children, youth and families and supports programs and policies that focus on their needs and foster positive solutions. Today, the Freddie Mac Foundation is one of the largest corporate givers in metropolitan Washington, D.C.
