Fairfax, Va. - The Nurturing Parenting Program®, offered by Fairfax County’s Department of Family Services with volunteer support from local community organizations, businesses and faith-based groups, provides parenting classes to promote the strengthening of families and the prevention of child abuse and neglect.
The program is currently seeking additional community support to continue and expand these highly successful classes throughout the county. Community volunteers support the program by preparing dinners for participating families, helping with child care, or assisting with facilitation of groups.
The Nurturing Parenting Program® is based on the philosophy that parenting is learned and that the way parents were raised directly influences the way they raise their children. The program helps parents learn new, nurturing behaviors in place of other behaviors that may be harmful to children. Classes are offered in English and Spanish.
Currently, classes are being held at the following locations:
Mt Vernon—Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church
Springfield—Grace Presbyterian Church and First Baptist Church of
Springfield
Herndon/Reston—St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church
Fairfax—Fairfax United Methodist Church
Falls Church—St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and Church of Christ
