For Immediate Release-September 29, 2005

Low-income Fairfax County residents who need help to pay home heating bills or who face an emergency heating situation this winter may be able to access assistance from two federally funded programs locally administered by the county’s Department of Family Services.

The Fuel Assistance program helps eligible low-income households with the costs of heating their homes. This year, the fuel assistance application period begins on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005, and closes on Monday, Nov. 14, 2005.

The Crisis Assistance program helps households in heating emergency situations with primary heat security deposits, utility heating bills, repair/replacement of heating equipment, or primary heating fuel. The Crisis Assistance application period begins Tuesday, Nov.1, 2005 and closes on Wednesday, March 15, 2006.

Please note: Limited funding is available for each program. Benefits for eligible applicants are based on availability of funds.
