Fairfax County’s Department of Family Services, in partnership with
other Fairfax County agencies and local Korean community organizations,
will offer a “Korean Senior Resource Fair,” on Saturday, April 14, from
noon to 4 p.m., at the Beautiful Gate Church, 3901 Gallows Road, in
Annandale.
The event is part of the county’s effort to reach out to its diverse
senior population. Korean-speaking staff will be available
to answer questions and help Korean seniors learn about the services
available. A light lunch will be provided, compliments of
Beautiful Gate Church.
Department of Family Services staff will provide information about
Medicaid, assisted living, nursing homes and other services.
Other participating county agencies include the Department of Community
and Recreation Services – FASTRAN; the Health Department – Community
Health Care Network and Adult Day Health Care; the Park Authority; the
Department of Systems Management for Human Services; and the Department
of Transportation. Two community organizations – the Korean Community
Services Center of Greater Washington and the Korean Central Senior
Center – will also be participating.
Partnerships among county agencies, nonprofit organizations, community
groups and faith-based organizations are an effective way to reach and
support seniors in our community,” says Sharon Lynn, Assistant Director
of the Fairfax Area Agency on Aging in the Department of Family
Services. “We focus on promoting the well-being of all older
adults in our community, and we want to ensure that language is not a
barrier to getting needed services.”
The April 14 resource fair is free and open to the public.
