Baby boomers, retirees and adults of all ages who are looking for flexible, meaningful volunteer opportunities are invited to Venture into Volunteering, a free volunteer fair, on Wednesday, September 26, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Sherwood Regional Library, 2501 Sherwood Hall Lane, in Alexandria, VA 22036.
Representatives from approximately 50 nonprofit organizations and Fairfax County agencies will be on hand to talk about their volunteer programs and benefits. Some of groups seeking volunteers include Pets on Wheels, Fancy Cats Rescue Team, Fairfax Families 4 Kids, the Lorton Community Action Center and The Literacy Council of Northern Virginia.
Refreshments will be provided, and participants will have an opportunity to enter a prize drawing.
Participants will also have the opportunity to experience SeniorNavigator, a statewide service that provides extensive information on the Internet about health and aging resources for seniors, caregivers, and adults with disabilities and their families. A local network of SeniorNavigator Centers, including the Sherwood Regional Library, provides free computer access and assistance from trained professionals to help visitors find the information they need.
This event is hosted by the Fairfax County Department of Family Services / Fairfax Area Agency on Aging, the Fairfax County Public Library, Volunteer Fairfax, and The Campagna Center’s Retired and Senior Volunteer Program.
