Fairfax County will host the 2009 Mega Job Fair and Entrepreneurship Expo – "Envision Your Success" – on Saturday, March 28, 2009, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fairfax County Government Center located at 12000 Government Center Parkway in Fairfax. The event is open to the public. Admission and parking are free. No pre-registration is required.
"This annual event is more important than ever this year," said Sharon Bulova, Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. "It provides a critical connection for local employers and job seekers. It offers tools and resources people need to develop their skills in an increasingly competitive labor market. And it helps those who want to start up new businesses that create jobs and fuel our economy."
Over 2,500 jobseekers and prospective entrepreneurs are expected. Employers from various industry sectors will be participating, offering a wide range of career opportunities. The event will also feature information about training, job, and business opportunities in the new "green economy," as well as potential benefits presented by the Federal Stimulus Package. Workshops will be offered on "Surviving a Job Loss," "Getting a Job with the Federal Government," and "How to Start Your Own Business."
The expo offers:
- For job seekers – connections with employers who are hiring now.
- For employers – connections with skilled workers.
- For current or prospective entrepreneurs – business resources and useful tips for starting or expanding a business.
- For teens – a special workshop on how to find and keep a summer job.
A new feature of this year's career expo is the opportunity for county residents to find out about food stamps and Medicaid. County staff will be on hand to take applications. More information is available on the Web at www.fairfaxmegajobfair.com
