Students and Job Seekers with Disabilities
To Participate in Disability Mentoring Day
Over 40 Fairfax County high school students and adult job seekers with disabilities will participate in a county program that introduces job seekers to careers in county government. The program takes place at the county’s Government Center in Fairfax on Wednesday, October 20.
Fairfax County Supervisor Catherine Hudgins, Fairfax Area Disability Services Board Chairman Michele Hymer Blitz, and Department of Family Services Director Nannette Bowler will speak to participants at 9:30 a.m.
Following this, participants will attend seminars on career exploration skills and reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities.
Participants will then have lunch with their county job mentors and “shadow” them throughout the afternoon. Mentors were selected to match the career goals and interests of the participants.

- Department of Family Services
- Department of Human Resources
- Department of Neighborhood and Community Services
- Department of Public Works and Environmental Services
- Department of Purchasing and Supply Management
- Facilities Management Department
- Health Department
- Library
- Office of Emergency Management
- Office of Human Rights and Equity Programs
The Capital Grille Restaurant of Tyson’s Corner and Washington, D.C. will provide the luncheon.
The program is sponsored by the Fairfax Area Disability
Services Board and the Department of Family Services’ Disability Services Planning and Development
program.
