About Us

The Department of Family Services’ Division of Adult and Aging Services provides services that help older adults and adults with disabilities remain independent in the community through the efforts of the following programs:

Adult Protective Services investigates reports of abuse, neglect and exploitation of older adults age 60 and above and incapacitated adults age 18 and above.

Adult Services provides case management, coordination of community resources, and comprehensive assessments with development of care plans. It also conducts pre-screenings for Medicaid funded long-term care.

Fairfax Area Agency on Aging serves older adults, caregivers and adults with disabilities in Fairfax County and the cities of Fairfax and Falls Church. It also funds most of these services and most services are available to all, regardless of income.

The agency supports the county-wide implementation of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors’ Fairfax 50+ Plan.

It receives partial funding under the federal Older Americans Act as well as funding from other federal, state and county sources.

It supports the Commission on Aging.
