A Description of School-Related Services Covered by the General Fund in Addition to the School Transfer

The largest portion of the General Fund is dedicated to public schools in the form of a General Fund transfer, reflecting that education continues to be the Board of Supervisors’ and the community’s highest priority. The General Fund transfer to FCPS includes funding for both school operations and debt service for new construction.

In addition to the General Fund transfer, the County also provides additional significant support for the Schools out of the General Fund to support programs such as Head Start, School Health, School Resource Officers, School Crossing Guards, after-school programming, field maintenance and recreational programs, among others.
