Welcome to the Fairfax County’s Mandate Webpage. Mandates have become an increasingly important component of the County’s budget. Each year agencies must ensure they have adequate resources to meet the requirements of federal and state mandates, many of which come with no additional funding. Additionally, the required expenditures that are not offset with federal or state revenue decreases the amount of flexibility in the General Fund budget to support other programs and/or reduce the tax burden on homeowners.

To help identify the mandates we are required to comply with and how much it annually costs to comply with the mandates, the County prepares an annual mandate report and semi-annually produces a mandate newsletter.
