  • Quander Road Stream Restoration

    • Location - Mount Vernon
    • Scope - Construction of retrofitting the existing Quander Road outfall in the Belle Haven watershed. The overall project consists of restoration of approximately 225 linear feet of the associated tributary and 775 linear feet of eroded storm drainage channel. The use of Natural Channel Design techniques will be used to develop a stable channel such as boulder pools, step pools, reinforced bed material, boulder riffles, rock sills and habitat logs. The work also includes restoration of the disturbed area with seed mix, shrubs, plantings and live stakes.

  • Dead Run at Dominican Retreat - Segment 1

    • Contract No. - CN16125153

    • Location – Dranesville
    • Scope - Restoration of approximately 1,943 linear feet of stream channel through natural stream design for the purpose of restoring/enhancing/stabilizing the degraded stream channel bed and bank to provide aquatic benefits, grade control, energy dissipation, improve water quality and aesthetics and prevent further erosion.  The use of Natural Channel Design techniques will be used to develop a stable channel using techniques such as creation of pool-riffle complexes, installation of in-stream structures (cross vanes, J-hooks, log sills, root wads, buried rock sills) and the planting of native vegetation along the banks and riparian areas.
    • Completion – Late Fall 2017
  • Flatlick Branch Phase II Stream Restoration

    • Scope – Restoration of approximately 4,301 linear feet of stream channel through natural stream design for the purpose of restoring/enhancing/stabilizing the degraded stream channel bed and bank to provide aquatic benefits, grade control, energy dissipation, improve water quality and aesthetics and prevent further erosion.  The use of Natural Channel Design techniques will be used to develop a stable channel using techniques such as creation of pool-riffle complexes, installation of in-stream structures (cross vanes, J-hooks, in-stream rock sills, log sills, cross vane woody debris, boulder clusters) and the planting of native vegetation along the banks and riparian areas.

  • Turkey Run Stream Restoration

    • Location – Braddock
    • Scope - Restoration of approximately 3,580 linear feet of stream channel through natural stream design for the purpose of restoring/enhancing/stabilizing the degraded stream channel bed and bank to provide aquatic benefits, grade control, energy dissipation, improve water quality and aesthetics and prevent further erosion.  The use of Natural Channel Design techniques will be used to develop a stable channel using techniques such as step pools, boulder clusters, log sills for constructed riffles, modified cross vanes with woody debris, j-hooks with woody debris, toe logs, modified cross vanes, j-hooks, single rock steps, , splash rocks floodplain sill, stream wetland habitat logs, boulder toe protection, boulder bridge abutments, rip rap bank protection, side swale stabilization, reinforced bed mix, Class I reinforcement under bridges, and clay plugs.  Also included is the removal and replacement of asphalt trails along with the removal and replacement of seven (7) Pedestrian Bridges.

  • Annual Contract for Stream Restoration & Water Quality Improvements

  • Royal Lake Dredging & Restoration

    • Contract No. - CN15125138
    • Project No. - SD-000033-040
    • Project Engineer - Bill Nolan
    • Contractor - ASI Constructors, Inc.
    • Location - Braddock
    • Scope - Dredging of up to 51,220 CY of sediment from Royal Lake. Work to include excavating two sediment forebays and construction of two sediment forebay berms, site restoration, shoreline stabilization, furnishing and installing fish habitats, streambank stabilization, installation of one new ACB ramp, and replacement of an existing boat ramp with an ACB ramp.

  • Colvin Run Phase I Lake Fairfax Park Stream Restoration

    • Contract No. - CN16125150
    • Project No. - SD-000031-141

    • Contractor - Avon Corporation
    • Location - Hunter Mill
    • Scope - Construction of approximately 2,220 feet of stream restoration of the Colvin Run Branch of the Difficult Run stream. The work includes stream restoration for the main channel and designated unnamed tributaries; removing existing 48-inch diameter RCP storm culverts; furnishing a precast arch culvert; removing and replacing private asphalt roads; porous asphalt trail; and converting a portion of the existing main stream channel into a low-flow bypass channel.
    • Completion - May 2017
  • Franklin Park & Chesterbrook Neighborhood Stormwater Improvement Project

    • Contract No. - CN13125070
    • Project No. - SD-000031-061
    • Project Engineer – Dave Becker
    • Contractor – Sagres Construction Corporation
    • Location –  Dranesville
    • Scope –combination of roadwork, utility relocation and stormwater improvements.  A majority of the work will be performed in the Virginia Department of Transportation Right-of –Way.  The work will include, but not limited to, the installation of: new pavement, parking pads with permeable pavers, utility relocation, amended swales and infiltration trenches with biosoil, underground water chambers, and other stormwater improvements.

  • Flatlick Branch Phase I Stream Restoration

    • Location - Sully
    • Scope - Construction of approximately 1,850 feet of stream restoration of the Flatlick Branch of the Cub Run stream including associated unnamed tributaries. The work shall include the following: Stream restoration, retrofitting an existing SWM basin into a Level 2 Constructed Wetland, removing sanitary sewer main (concrete encased asbestos cement pipe), sanitary sewer pipe (DIP), sanitary sewer bypass pumping, storm sewer man holes, storm sewer pipe (RCP) removing and replacing an existing concrete fair weather stream crossing, trail construction, clearing, tree removal, eradication of invasive plant species, trees, shrubs, sanitary sewer manhole, erosion and sediment control, and site restoration. The proposed stream restoration work has been designed to Natural Channel Design (NCD) standards. Proposed NCD components include: modified cross vanes, rock weirs, step pools, meandering riffles, boulder riffles, toe logs, root wads, plunge pools, reinforced bed material, salvaged reinforced bed material, rock steps, in-stream rock sills, cross vane woody debris, in-stream woody debris, Type I, II, and III, tree save benches, tree save pits, and native plantings.
    • Completion - Summer 2016
