Building Plan, Plat and Sewer Diagram Archive
Building Plans
After a building permit has been issued, the
plans and related documentation for both commercial and residential
projects are retained either physically or electronically in a Fairfax
County facility. In accordance with the Virginia Public Records Act, all
stored documents are destroyed three years after final inspection.
Fairfax County does not retain building plans for
more than three years after final inspection.
If you would like to obtain a copy of your plans, and you feel they are still in the county's possession, please contact our Freedom of Information Act coordinator at 703-324-1833, TTY 711. You may also fax a Request for Records form to 703-324-1810.
House Location Plat
Most closing documents include a house location plat. However, the Fairfax County Zoning Permit Review Branch at 703-222-1082, TTY 711 may have a copy of a plat in their permanent records. Please note: Fairfax County does not have a recorded plat for all properties in the county.
