Decking and Rail
For decking and/or rail composed of
structural plastics to be approved for use in Fairfax County, they must
be listed by a certified evaluation service such as the International Code Council-Evaluation
Service (ICC-ES) in accordance with ICC-ES Acceptance Criteria
AC-174. The evaluation service must issue an evaluation report
to verify the decking and rail's compliance with the building code.
The products approved for use in Fairfax County are listed by the following (click on the product description to obtain a copy of the corresponding evaluation report):
-
International Code Council-Evaluation Service:
- Architectural Testing (all listings can be found at architecturaltesting.com)
Only those products with evaluation reports which reference the 2006 or 2009 International Residential Code or International Building Code will be accepted by Fairfax County. Reports referencing legacy codes are no longer accepted. Please attach a copy of the evaluation report with each set of plans during the permit application process.
If you have any questions about the Fairfax County decking and railing approval process, please contact Building Plan Review via email or at 703-222-0114, TTY 711.
