Report Streetlight Outage


Fairfax County Streetlights are maintained by either Dominion Virginia Power (DVP) or Northern Virginia Electrical Cooperative (NOVEC). The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) operates the streetlights along interstates and at major interchanges.

How to Make a Report

  1. All you will need to make the report to the power company is a nearby address and pole number. If you do not have the pole number, please enter the nearest address number and street name in the map search feature below to locate the streetlight pole.

  2. Click on pole in map feature and you will be provided with a pole number. To make the report click on the power company name link, complete and submit the report form. Or call and make the report to corresponding power company.

Still Cannot Find the Pole?

  1. The streetlight is privately owned or on a private road. In this case, the corresponding private owner (for example, HOA) has to report the outage to power company.
  2. Pole and light may have not been identified in inventory. In this case, please email Department of Public Works by clicking and filling out the form or call 703-324-5111, TTY 711 to have the Streetlight department assist you.
  3. If the Streetlight is located at a major interchange you will need to contact VDOT.

Power Company Numbers to Report Outages

*When reporting an outage to Dominion Virginia Power or NOVEC, you will need to have the location of the pole and the pole number.

  • Dominion Virginia Power: Call 1-866-DOM-HELP (366-4357) TTY 711

    Dominion Virginia Power uses a coding system when responding to repair orders where the problem cannot be resolved on the first visit. If further work is required to correct the problem, a color-coded tag is wrapped around the light post: blue( overhead repair is required), green (underground repair is necessary) and yellow (underground cable is damaged and needs repair).
  • NOVEC: Call 1-888-335-0500, TTY 711
