Fairfax County staff first identified several sites infested with emerald ash borer in 2008. It is very difficult to find trees that are infested with emerald ash borer; they can go undetected for several years.

This spring, Fairfax County worked cooperatively with Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to implement a emerald ash borer survey. Five hundred emerald ash borer traps were placed throughout Fairfax County. The traps were periodically checked throughout the summer to idenify any additional areas of infestation.
