If you are unable to cancel an inspection before the day for which it is scheduled, call the Commercial or Residential Division offices:

How quickly can I schedule an
inspection? How many days in advance can I schedule an
inspection?
If you use our automated telephone
system or website, you may schedule your
inspections up to 11:59 p.m. for the next business day, otherwise,
inspections scheduled by staff must be made by 4 p.m. for the next
business day. We can schedule inspections for up to 30 days in advance;
we cannot schedule same day inspections.
What are the required
inspections for my project, and when do I need to call for their
inspection?
The required inspections depend on the project. Please refer to our

What is my inspector's
name and can I call him/her?
Yes, you can call your inspector. To obtain his/her name and telephone
number, call Inspection Requests and Records at 703-222-0455, TTY
711 during business hours, or the Commercial or Residential Division
offices:

Can I schedule a specific time
for my inspection? Can the inspector call me 15 minutes before he/she
reaches my home? Can the inspector wait for me if I'm not home
yet?
Fairfax County is unable to offer this type of service. However, you may
call your inspector between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. on the morning of your
inspection to discuss his/her schedule. In addition, the Commercial or
Residential Division offices may be able to provide you with assistance.

Why didn't my inspector come
today?
Inspections will be performed for the day requested. However, some days
there are more inspections requested than an inspector can perform. On
these occasions, the remaining inspections will be conducted on the
following business day. If you have more specific questions, or if you
would like to reschedule the inspection, please call your inspector or
the Commercial or Residential Division.

No. We try to maintain consistency and therefore inspectors are assigned
territories, which are automatically maintained by our computer
system.
