Floodplain Management Plan Progress Report Available

The Floodplain Management Plan Progress Report 2013 is available to the public and to the media as of Oct. 10, 2013. The progress report is part of the Northern Virginia Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan and is published annually by the staff of the Stormwater Planning Division, Department of Public Works and Environmental Services, Fairfax County.

Twenty-five flood mitigation actions are addressed in the report. Examples include:

  • Flood Mitigation Action 2 (2013):
    Continue to implement flood proofing methods for some structures based on the outcome of analyzing alternative solutions to flood causes.

  • Project 6: Kings Park West Recreation Association: T
    his project, now known as Rabbit Branch Park, removed two pools, a bath house, tennis courts and a parking lot. The site was restored with bio-filtration and native planting practices.

  • Project 7: Huntington Levee:
    A contract to design a levee system to better protect the Huntington community from flooding was awarded. Design work has commenced.
