Fairfax County Building Code Services Manager Tomberlin Elected ICC Vice President

Guy TomberlinGuy Tomberlin, Building Code Services Manager for the Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services, has been elected Vice President of the International Code Council (ICC) Board of Directors. The Code Council is a U.S.-based association that develops codes and standards for states and local governments to use in the construction of safe and resilient homes and buildings.

“One of Fairfax County’s long-term initiatives has been gaining national exposure by participating in organizations such as the Code Council,” Tomberlin said. “To serve in this capacity is a privilege and serious commitment. I fully recognize and embrace the obligations.”

Tomberlin manages Fairfax County’s building permit section and serves as technical advisor to county agencies for building, mechanical, fuel-gas and plumbing code related matters. As a Certified Building Official, he has been active in code enforcement since 1985. He is a former president of the Virginia Building and Code Officials Association and the Virginia Plumbing and Mechanical Inspectors Association, the statewide code enforcement organizations that promote building safety through code development, education and public awareness.

“The Members of our volunteer Board of Directors devote their time, energy and expertise to the Code Council to ensure safe construction while lessening the burden on government to develop their own codes,” said ICC Chief Executive Officer Dominic Sims. “We thank them for their leadership, and we thank their local jurisdictions for supporting their service.”

The International Code Council is a member-focused association. It is dedicated to developing model codes and standards used in the design, build and compliance process to construct safe, sustainable, affordable and resilient structures. Most U.S. communities and many global markets choose the International Codes.
