2006 Land Conservation Awards

As part of our continuing efforts to recognize outstanding achievements in protecting downstream properties and natural resources from erosion and sedimentation during the land development process, we are pleased to inform you of the annual Land Conservation Awards program.

This spring, as well as in the fall, nominations for these awards are being solicited from any individual, firm or organization who believe that efforts of a developer are worthy of such recognition. The Land Conservation Awards (Erosion and Sediment Control) Nomination Form (PDF) can be accessed here and is also available for pick up at the Plan and Document Control intake counter in the Herrity Building, 5th floor, 12055 Government Center Parkway. The completed nomination form must accompany all letters of recommendation and must be submitted to the Director, Land Development Services, by May 12, 2006. Nomination letters should cite points of excellence that form the basis for the request or recommendation.

Judging is scheduled to be conducted by representatives from the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District and the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation between May 22 and 26. Photographs of sites and notes taken by the judges during this period will be saved and evaluated with the sites that are judged during the fall. Single winners will be selected in each of the erosion and sediment control categories. Projects judged in the spring will not be subjected to another field evaluation in the fall.

Further details may be obtained from Basant Sood, Erosion and Sediment Control Administrator at 703-324-1950, TTY 711.

Your participation in contributing to the success of the awards program is appreciated!
