Tysons Corner Stormwater Design Information Session
On April 18, the Department of Public Works and Environmental Services is offering an information session for submitting engineers and development teams to introduce a new Tysons Corner Stormwater Compliance Checklist and Spreadsheet. These tools were developed to aid designers and county staff in the preparation and review of stormwater plans for projects in the Tysons Corner Urban Center.
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors adopted the Comprehensive Plan Amendment for Tysons Corner on June 22, 2010. Stormwater management guidance is included within the Environmental Stewardship section of the plan, which is intended to protect receiving waters downstream of Tysons Corner by reducing runoff from impervious surfaces. The stormwater goals emphasize retaining the first inch of rainfall on-site through reuse, infiltration, and evapotranspiration. These goals can only be accomplished using a progressive approach to stormwater management and innovative stormwater management techniques.
The information session will cover the following:
- The adopted stormwater management goals for Tysons Corner, including a conceptual view of urban stormwater management approaches that may be used to achieve the goals.
- Background on how and why the Compliance Checklist and Spreadsheet were developed for use in Tysons Corner.
- Use of the checklist and spreadsheet to demonstrate compliance with the Tysons Corner stormwater management goals.
The information session will be held April 18, 2012, from 10 a.m. to noon in rooms 106 and 107 of the Herrity Building, located at 12055 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, Va. 22035.
Following the information session all presentations and materials will be posted on the county’s website at http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/tysons/.
The adopted Comprehensive Plan Amendment can be viewed or downloaded from the Fairfax County website at this link: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/tysons/comprehensiveplan/.
