A Sanitary District is defined as an area that is located within identifiable boundaries in which a service is provided by the local jurisdiction, i.e., sewer, street lights, trash collection, etc.
Because the State Code deems these services to be of general benefit to every resident within the district, each resident is required to pay a portion of the cost of the service. This user fee is included as a separate item on each property's real estate tax bill.
