The Wastewater Collection
Division’s 24-Hour Trouble Response Center provides assistance to
homeowners facing a sewer backup. Soon after a trouble call is received,
a Trouble Response inspector is dispatched to determine the cause of the
sewer backup. The inspector takes appropriate action to remove the
blockage from the sewer main or advises the homeowner to call a plumber
if the blockage is in the private sewer lateral.
If sewage is backing up in your home or if you observe sluggish flow in a sink, toilet, or tub, please call 703-323-1211, TTY 711, and an inspector will be dispatched to determine whether the backup is caused by blockage in the county sewer line. If you observe an overflowing sanitary sewer manhole, or wish to report an odor related to the sanitary sewer system, please call 703-323-1211, TTY 711.
